Beware of Greeks bearing chocolate fountains

PastMaster heads for Troy and attempts to come up with a better idea than the Trojan Horse

Greek Keon: cunning

In Monday’s episode of PastMaster the team heads for Troy with Tan and Keon attempting to outwit each other (and the Trojans) by making something better than a massive wooden horse.

Will our robot Game Master allow anachronistic inventions like chocolate? Will the Greek army get behind their new engineers’ ideas? And will Keon’s GCSE in food technology beat Tan’s grade C in design technology?

Tune in to PastMaster on Monday to find out…

Rearranging the world order

Factories: US style

Donald Trump is renowned as a fan of generative AI, with some reports going so far as to suggest his tariff calculations were cooked up on a programme like ChatGPT.

What the leader of the US surely isn’t a fan of is the way Chinese wags have been mocking up AI videos showing dejected US workers taking on the factory jobs that have traditionally been outsourced to China.

It seems grossly irresponsible that the American president be allowed to drive a wrecking ball into the global economy. But who knew Chinese AI would prove such a suitable mode for satire?

AI in the news

Microsoft: watching through your computer screen?

Microsoft, which by comparison with other tech giants is perhaps something of a staid, even mild operator, has seemingly blundered in its latest AI venture.

The company has started to roll out an AI-powered tool called Copilot+ Recall which takes snapshots of users’ screens every few seconds, in what was branded a ‘privacy nightmare’ in its botched first launch in 2024.

Privacy campaigner Dr Kris Shrishak - who was the main guy slagging off the tool last year - said the new opt-in mechanism is "an improvement", but that it could still be misused.

"Information about other people, who cannot consent, will be captured and processed through Recall," he said.

It’s another week on the naughty step for AI.
