Season 2 kicked off on Monday with a cameo from the excellent comedian and writer Tom GK. Thanks for all the feedback on the episode so far – it’s great to hear that the audio is already sounding better than in season 1, and that Tom’s parody of Tan’s accent hit the bullseye.
On Monday 6 November episode 2 of the new season drops with rapper and comedian Nick Horseman returning to the hotseat for a nautical adventure with his son’s hero, Admiral Lord Nelson.
[Spoiler alert] This episode includes the time traveller Napoleon Bonaparte, industrial levels of whittling and a titanic battle of strategy with one of the greatest military commanders in history. It also involves a man drinking tea with his pinky out.

Indie Technology Pod of the year (nearly)
On Monday the PastMaster team headed to London Kings Cross for the first ever Independent Podcast Awards ceremony. We were just pipped to the post for best indie technology podcast by the brilliant The Future of You, but we’re already firing up the time machine to go back and change the name in the winner’s envelope… Jokes aside it was a brilliant event and has fired us up to make PastMaster better than ever. Also a note to say how amazing and hilarious the host Esther Manito was. Move over, Ricky Gervais.

Getting your face out there
If you follow the PastMaster Instagram account you might have noticed our own faces creeping into the AI illustrations we make using Midjourney. It’s done with a cool app called InSwapper and it’s added a new level of intimacy and silliness to the proceedings. Although in fairness it’s gotten slightly out of control and sometimes the same person’s face appears several times in the same picture. Definite shades of Being John Malkovich.
Let us know your favourite PastMaster AI art so far. Personally I don’t think anything can quite touch Machine Gun Wonka from season 1.
AI in the news
Man, is AI in the news a lot right now. The Bletchley Park AI Summit kicked off on Wednesday with Elon Musk calling AI a threat to humanity and Mustafa Suleyman, the co-founder of DeepMind, saying we might need to ‘pause’ AI development. Even dear old King Charles had his tuppence’ worth. But it’s a relief to hear ChatGPT doesn’t yet pose a risk of catastrophic harm… Phew! I guess we can keep calm and carry on playing PastMaster…
