AI meteorologists: good at weather predictions

A single researcher with a desktop computer will soon be able to give accurate forecasts using an AI weather app that is tens of time faster and uses thousands of times less energy than current weather forecasting tech.

Aardvark Weather could make a tangible difference in specific industries or locations such as African agriculture or European wind speeds for renewable energy companies.

It’s another plus point for AI’s ability to do good. But what happens when there’s a catastrophic weather miscalculation? What’s going to be the AI equivalent of Michael Fish’s failure to predict the great storm of 1987? And who can we point our finger at when the AI gets it wrong?
