PastMaster is back! Season four kicks off on Monday with special guest Micky Overman heading to Pride & Prejudice times to give sexism a punch on the nose.
Will her modern day feminism be accepted by Georgian society? Will she hit the bullseye when it really counts? Tune in to find out.

Also coming up this season we’ll be welcoming writers Stefan Appleby and Chris Dillon, as well as the hosts of kids TV nostalgia podcast Thots TV, plus Nick Horseman is back for a Grand Theft Auto-style dose of chaos in ancient Mesopotamia.
We’ll also be experimenting with a ‘goldilocks’ rules update - not too easy nor too hard - and playing our first battle of the bots, pitting ChatGPT against Claude to see which AI is better, as well as testing new AI technology emerging all the time.

Chinese AI bot on the rampage!
Chinese chatbot DeepSeek has emerged as a dominant new player in the AI space.
The share price of American chipmaker Nvidia tumbled after the Chinese programme was revealed to be the most downloaded free AI in the US.
The team behind DeepSeek say unprecedented collaboration between Chinese developers has resulted in AI advances that are much more efficient and cheaper than the likes of GPT and Claude etc... It potentially turns the AI landscape on its head.
Move over America, with your sanctions and protectionism. There’s a new AI superpower in town, and it’s rising in the East. Expect DeepSeek to make an appearance in PastMaster Season 4 soon.
WHEN AI JUST WON’T QUIT
AI robots in (endless) conversation
Shell Game, a podcast by Evan Ratliff, explores the possibilities when you hook up an AI bot like ChatGPT to the real world. Specifically he connects GPT to a clone of his voice and to his phone. He then calls up scammers and taunts them with a simulation of his voice spouting an endless stream of patient and sanguine words provided by OpenAI’s chatbot.
The most amusing episode literally had me crying with laughter on the train while other passengers looked on, concerned. It’s in episode three where he gets one of his clones to ring up another one and then eavesdrops on their conversation.
These idiot robots make up plans to meet in the park next Saturday and are strangely unsurprised to hear that they both have a wife and daughter of the exact same age and names. But the bit that really got me is when Ratliff realises he hasn’t instructed either of his clones to hang up the phone and end the conversation. Listening to these AI bots keep the chat going well past the point where they should have stopped talking is just too precious.
