Three today: PastMaster

It’s been three years since the PastMaster team turned on the mics and started meddling with history.

The time has literally flown by. We have built our own a pub/time machine where we record our episodes, we’ve joined the mighty Mercury Podcasts network and we’re sprinting (or shambling?) toward our 100th episode.

To celebrate the occasion we winkled original host Keon out of retirement for a cameo and set about creating the greatest birthday party in all of history. [Question: who would you choose as your plus one at a bacchanalia for the ages? Let us know…]

AI in the news

The AI bad-ometer has definitely been swinging hard lately. Not only is artificial intelligence going to rip out the job market from under young people’s feet, but it turns out it is also about to give a hefty leg-up to cyber criminals.

Anthropic, which owns Claude - the AI tool we use for PastMaster - presents as the moral face of the industry, emphasising guardrails and safety concerns at least on a par with the pace of development.

The company put its most powerful update, Mythos, on hold for general release after it discovered a bunch of serious weaknesses in a ton of financial institutions’ digital defences, prompting crisis meetings among central bankers and financiers.

I particularly like that the worried Canadian finance minister said it was serious enough to warrant the attention of “all the finance ministers”.

Even if the machines don’t get us, they will make it easy for the bad guys.

It’s Golden Lobe time!

PastMaster is in the running for THREE awards at the Golden Lobes comedy podcast festival next week: social media, behind the scenes hero and ‘beyond the feed’ (whatever that means).

PastMaster has been nominated for more awards than you can count on one person’s fingers but we haven’t won any for two and a half years. Maybe this time…
