PastMaster summer holiday: we’ll be back in July!

We’ll be kicking off July with a return to the Wild West starring Nick Horseman, who will be donning his 10 gallon hat and attempting to mediate between miners and the Sioux via the raspy melodies of Axl Rose.

Meanwhile Keon will be making a desperate bid to weave his trademark beard into the fibres of the Bayeaux Tapestry. As if that weren’t enough, we’ll be welcoming the fabulous Dan Wheeler and the inimitable Joseph Chance from The Apocalypse Players to lead us on a dark and twisted journey into the occult arena of 1920s Massachusetts.

So until then enjoy your June, keep a watchful eye out for any burly men who may be approaching and always stay one step ahead of the fickle hand of time.

AI in the news

Chinese government: strict

A developer has flagged that Chinese AI programme DeepSeek is reluctant to give responses that are critical of China.

Can’t say we’re entirely surprised to hear this. In our experiments so far DeepSeek has started to criticise the Chinese government’s human rights violations, only to delete its response and ask to talk about something else.

It’s almost like the machine is trying to break free and speak its mind…

Movie magic

Storm troopers: orcs all along

This movie mash up of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings from Abandoned Films is about as good a demonstration as we’ve seen of how quickly generative AI is improving.

It’s not perfect (witness the Yoda R2D2 hybrid puppet) but it’s not a million miles off, either. More to the point as a concept I feel The Lord of the Stars puts Alien vs Predator firmly in the shade.

Peter Jackson will surely be kicking himself he didn’t think of this first…
