Tesla and Edison - brilliant minds or flawed geniuses?
In Monday’s PastMaster we pit Keon against Tan, GPT against Claude, Tesla against Edison, and Ryan against a game system so complicated it needs a flow chart to explain what’s happening.
It’s the late 19th century and the War of the Currents is in full swing as Nikola Tesla and his alternating current vie against Thomas Edison and his direct current for domination of the electricity market.
But what underhand tricks will our players deploy to gain the advantage? Which AI robot will take the competition more seriously? And can you disguise a bus as a battery? Tune in to find out.

It’s staggering how quickly AI tools are improving at replicating voice and image in tandem. It feels like we’re very nearly at the point where it’s impossible to tell confection from reality.
This is alarming. But also helps us to imagine new, seemingly implausible possibilities.
As this clip demonstrates, if only Arnold Shwarzenegger’s career had taken a slightly different showbiz direction, pop music could have turned out completely different.

AI programmes: perpetuating the greatest heist in human history
Writer Toby Walsh makes an eloquent case against what he calls the greatest heist in human history.
Authors are being screwed over by the likes of Open AI who claim their ‘scraping’ of literature from the internet is ‘fair use’, he writes. Walsh points out a lot of AI’s input comes from an illicit Russian database and is not paid for.
AI programmes are here to stay, and PastMaster wouldn’t exist without them. But given the billions of dollars churning around in the tech space it seems plain wrong that creative human output is being eaten up by giant AI monsters without any reward for the creators.
